Charity Tram Pull during Veteran’s Week
Ex- Navy Servicemen Michael Smith, who now works as a driver for Metro
Coastlines, and his colleague Carl O’Hara, who is also a driver, have
organised a tram pull on Wednesday 24 June. Michael, Carl and
several colleagues who have volunteered their services will be pulling
the HMS Blackpool, the Illuminated Frigate from Rigby Road towards the
North Pier at 11.00. HMS Blackpool weighs around 14 tons, so this will
be no mean feat.
All money raised will be split between “Help for Heroes” and the BLESMA
Homes (run by the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association).
BLESMA care for amputees and other disabled servicemen and have several
homes around the UK, including one here in Blackpool. Help for Heroes
is a charity set up to provide practical care and support for wounded
ex-servicemen.
Oliver Howarth, Operations Director, said “Quite a few of our staff
have served in the Forces and we are very proud of their
achievements. We wish Michael, Carl and our other drivers
good
luck and good weather for the tram pull and we hope that they raise a
lot of money for these very deserving and important charities.”
